Transcript:Baby Shower Gift Centerpiece

Hi, I'm Carmela Cirilli for About.com, and today I'm going to show you how to make a baby shower centerpiece, a motorcycle diaper cake.

Baby Shower Centerpiece Materials

So I'll tell you what you'll need first for this project. You're going to need:
  • 30 number one sized diapers
  • Stuffed animal
  • Cylindrical baby object (I've chosen some baby wash here-you can use a baby bottle)
  • Rubber bands
  • 3 yards of ribbon of your choice
  • Double-sided tape
  • Pair of baby socks
  • 1 wash cloth
  • 2 bibs
  • Scissors for cutting the ribbon
  • 2 receiving blankets

Build the Wheels With Diapers

The first thing you want to do is create your wheels, and I've already done them here, so you have an idea of what they look like. I've actually used a tissue paper roll to kind of help keep that stabilized, and basically you'll use a rubber band to keep everything together. To hide your mechanics, which is something you always want to do, you want to take a about a yard of ribbon and use that to cover around. And you just want to use a little bit of the double-sided tape to keep it in place.

Connect Wheels of Baby Shower Centerpiece

The next step is you want to take your receiving blanket and fold it into thirds. To keep it in place as you're looping it through, because that's what we're going to do-loop it through the holes of one of the diaper cake wheels. Take one of these wheels and loop the receiving blanket through. Pull the tube out and just kind of shimmy it through so that it's just about even. Take this rubber band and, you know, the tighter you do it the better. Tuck that in to hide your mechanics.

Add Seat and Baby Bottle Headlight

Just kind of fold it so it fits a little bit better on the tire of the motorcycle. I'm going to do it this way and kind of tuck that into the middle. This one is a little bit smaller but I'm going to do the same thing and put that on the back. Now we need the headlight. You either take your baby bottle, or in my case baby wash, and we're going to wrap the label here and put the seam side down.

Finish With Handlebars and Stuffed Animal

Now we're going to the do the same thing that we did, fold it in thirds as thin as possible, keeping it together with the rubber bands. We're going to loop these up to create the handlebars. I'm going to undo these rubber bands, cinch it at the top of where your cylindrical baby object is. Stick this guy back on here if it happens to fall off. I like to put the heel side of the sock down and cover the ends there. Just tie a bow here on the front, which really finishes that off nicely. And lastly you have your teddy bear. And there you have your motorcycle centerpiece.

Thanks for watching. It's been really fun to show you how to make this motorcycle diaper cake centerpiece. To learn this and a lot more, visit us at About.com.
