Hi, I'm Isaac Brody for About.com Computing. Today I'll teach you how to import and export your addresses in Outlook Express for safekeeping and transferring to other computers.Open Your Email Address Book
First, open up Outlook Express. Once Outlook is open, click on the 'file' menu, select 'export,' and choose 'address book.' An Address Book Export window pops up. You have two choices: select 'text file,' and hit the 'export' button.Save the Email Address Export File
This brings up the Export window. Type in a name for your email address export file. Make sure you give it a name you'll easily recognize.After giving it a name, click on 'browse' to specify where to save the file. I'm saving it in the My Documents folder. Click 'save,' then click 'next.'
Export Your Email Address Book
You have a choice of what information to export. I'm going to export the first and last name and email address. Click on 'finish.'An Address window pops up saying it's complete. Click 'OK.' Close the Address Export window, and you're finished.
Import Your Email Address Book
Now that you've exported your email addresses, I'll show you how to import them into Outlook Express. This is helpful if you have a computer crash or need to set up a new computer.In Outlook, click on the 'file' menu, select 'import,' and choose 'other address book.' You're given several choices. Select 'text file' on the bottom, and hit the 'import' button.
Click the 'browse' button, and select your email addresses. Mine are in My Documents folder. Hit 'open,' click 'next,' select 'finish,' and hit 'OK.' Close the Address Import window, and you've successfully imported your address list.
