Hi, I’m Shane Murphy, your technology Guru for About.com. Today we’ll review how to access your Gmail account in Outlook.Enable IMAP in Gmail
First you’ll need to enable IMAP in Gmail. Login to your account and then click on Settings, then the “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” tab. At the bottom, click “Enable IMAP”.Configure Outlook Account Settings
Now open Outlook. At the top, click on “tools” then “account settings”. Click on the “email” tab and then click “new”. Click the “Microsoft Exchange” button and then “next”. Fill in your name, email address, and your password of choice.Make sure you have the manually configure option box checked before clicking next. Select “Internet Email” and click next. Make sure your name and email address are correct and then type in your original email address and password at the bottom.
Change Account Type
Change your account type to “IMAP”. In the “incoming mail server” field, type “imap.gmail.com”. For the “outgoing mail server”, type in “smtp.gmail.com”.Now click “more settings”, then the “outgoing servers” tab. Click the box for server authentication, and make sure the “use same settings” option is selected. Now click on the “advanced” tab .
Select SSL as your type of encrypted connection. Enter the number “465” for your outgoing server. Now click Ok, then Next, then Finish, then Close to conclude the process and start sending emails through your gmail account on Outlook.
