Transcript:Final Cut Pro: How to Add Transitions
Hi, I'm Nick and today for About.com, I'm going to teach you how to add transitions in Final Cut Pro X.
Basic Tips for Adding Transitions in Final Cut Pro
It's worth remembering that you can fine-tune your cut points by double clicking on an anchor point between clips. This allows you to prepare your timeline before adding transitions.
Final Cut Transitions
The quickest and simplest way to add a transition is by right-clicking on a clip and selecting ‘Add Cross Dissolve'. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Command+T. This places a cross dissolve transition on either side of the selected clip. From here, you can adjust the position of the transition by dragging and dropping. You can also right-click the transition and select ‘Show Precision Editor' to precisely adjust the transition length and position on the timeline.
By clicking on a transition and opening the inspector, you have access to further options. These will be slightly different depending on which transition you insert, but they can be used to tweak the look and feel of each transition on the timeline.
Transition Options in Final Cut Pro
You can choose different transitions by clicking on the transitions button in the media browser. Here, you can either cycle through transitions, or narrow your search to particular category. By moving your mouse cursor over the thumbnail of the transition, you can see what it looks like in action, before having to insert it. You can add these transtions to the timeline either by double clicking, or by dragging and dropping.
It's also worth noting that you can add transitions even if clips are on different storylines. Simply add the transition using the normal methods. Delete unwanted transitions by selecting them with your cursor and hitting the backspace key.
