Hi this is Andrew Hyland for About.com and this is a quick tip on how to use this scale tool in in design.
Skill Tool in InDesign
The skill tool allows you to scale any items in your document according to any specifications that you may need.
Using the InDesign Tool
In order to utilize the skill tool we first need to select it from the left-hand side or by pressing S on our keyboard. Once we have selected or skill tool we can go to the item that we want to scale. We are given a crosshair as our cursor and work to select the point of where we want to skillet from.
For this example we are going to use the center of our item as our scaling point. To scalar item all we need to do is drag from the corner of one of the squares of our item. When doing this it will not retain the proportions of the original item when it was scale. Holding the shift button while you are scaling will allow you to retain your items original dimensions when you're scaling.
