Hi this is Andrew Hyland for About.com and this is a quick tip on how to use the measuring tool in in design.

Opening the Measure Tool in InDesign

The measuring tool can be open and located on the left-hand side or by pressing K on your keyboard. One selected the easiest way to use the measuring tool is by clicking and dragging on your screen any distance you would like to measure. If your info panel is not already opened it will pop up and give you the different dimensions of your lines.

Measuring Angles in InDesign

With the measuring tool you cannot only measure straight lines but you can also measure angles. To do this you must first create a straight line and hold down the option key on Mac or the alt key on windows to create your second line and it will automatically connect your lines and measure the angle. As you can see in the info panel it gives you the distance of your line 1 and your line 2.

That was a quick tip on how to use the measuring tool in in design. Thanks for watching, to find out more please visit us on the web at About.com.
