I'm Haley Lesavoy and today I'm here to show you how to kayak on the Potomac.
Great Places for Boat Rides on the Potomac River
Two great places to get started are Jacks boat house and Thompson's Boat Center, both of which are located right here on the Georgetown Water front. Prices usually range from 10 dollars an hour to 28 dollars a day and for just a couple more dollars you can upgrade your kayak to a double so that you and a friend can go on the adventure together.
Kayaking on the Potomac
So getting a Kayak is simple but there are a couple other things you should know. There is a place where you can store a purse or whatever other items you may be bringing. The storage container is a little damp in the kayak so it's best to bring a plastic bag to put your cellphone or camera in. You should also bring water, sunscreen and a hat because it gets pretty hot out there on the water and bringing those things is probably something you'll thank yourself for later.
Kayak Trips on the Potomac
For you go-getters out there, there is a place where you can go. Roosevelt island is only about a 15 minute kayak away, and it's a 91- acre wilderness reserve, where they have two and a half miles of foot trails and a 17 foot bronze statue of Roosevelt. So if you're up for a DC adventure and some exploring, it's a perfect place to go.
So there you have it good luck mastering the waters of the Potomac, I'm Haley Lesavoy for About.com.
