Transcript:How to Make Wilma and Fred Couples Costume

Have you and your significant other been invited to a costume party, but you're too stuffed with brontosaurus burgers to think of a costume? Well I'm Blaine Pennington and today I'm going to show you how to make a costume that will be a page right out of history.

Information About Fred and Wilma Flintstone

Fred and Wilma Flintstone are two of America's favorite classic cartoon characters, and they're a great couples' costume too.

Supplies for Making Fred and Wilma Flintstone

Here's what you'll need to have a gay old time:

  • A utility knife
  • scissors
  • black paint with a brush or a black marker
  • needle and thread
  • a small piece of cardboard
  • an orange sheet or large orange t shirt if you can find one, otherwise about 2.5-3.5 yards or orange felt fabric
  • any light blue fabric
  • a long white t shirt or dress
  • Styrofoam balls
  • red and black hair spray dye if Fred and Wilma's hair aren't already those colors, and finally……a five o'clock shadow, if Fred can grow one

Making the Fred Flintstone Costume

Let's make Fred's costume first. Make sure your fabric is the right size for Fred. Your orange fabric needs three sides that are attached and one side that is open. The open side will be the bottom of the shirt. If you need to sew together any of your fabric, do so now. Use your scissor to cut a head hole and arm holes in your fabric. Make jagged cuts for a more stone age effect. If you found a t-shirt, just cut the sleeves off.

Now, cut jagged lines in the bottom of the shirt. Next, cut an irregular triangle in your cardboard with your utility knife.Use the cardboard as a stencil as you paint triangles around the front and back of your Fred Flintstone shirt. Once the triangles dry, Fred's top is done.

For the tie, cut your blue fabric into a long strip about 3 to 4 feet long. Cut jagged lines at one end for the finishing touches. Slip the shirt on over Fred's head and tie Fred's tie as if it were a normal tieFinally, dye Fred's hair black if it isn't already a dark color, and you're finished!

Making the Wilma Flintstone Costume

Now on to Wilma. First, make sure the t-shirt or dress is an appropriate size.If the shirt or dress works, cut a small strip off the bottom, open your new circle of fabric so it becomes a line, and put it to the side. Now use your scissor to turn this fabric into a one-strap dress. Cut jagged lines on the bottom of the dress for that Flintstone feel. Put the dress aside and get out your Styrofoam balls and needle and tread. Use your threaded needle to link your Styrofoam balls together.

Put Wilma's hair in a bun. If she needs her hair dyed red, dye it red now. It's time to get dressed. Slip Wilma's dress on over her head. Now take the strip of fabric you put aside and tie it around Wilma's waist. Finally, tie the necklace around Wilma's neck. With your costumes finished you're ready to rock bedrock!
