Transcript:Create an Eye-Catching Online Dating Profile

Hey guys - Jonathon Stewart here for About.com. Whether it's Match.com, EHarmony, JDate, Black Christian People Meet, Amigos, Shaadi or Manhunt, if you're looking for love online, you'd better be sporting a rockstar profile. Here's how you do it - check it out.

Choose the Right Dating Site

Before you even get started on your profile, you need to choose a dating site. With literally hundreds of choices available to you, be sure to do your research. Are you looking for a long-term stable relationship, or a fun time, no strings attached? Do you want to date someone of your own faith or ethnicity, or are you open to meeting people of different backgrounds? Each site has its own focus, and picking the right one for you is the first step in finding what you're looking for.

Hey, if you're into women prisoners, dressing up like Mr. Spock, getting fixed up according to your DNA, or checking out other drivers on your morning commute, you are in luck.

Create an Honest Dating Profile

When you're ready to get going, remember this: be honest. It's easy to hide behind the anonymity of the web, but if you're serious about meeting someone, you're eventually going to have to drag yourself away from your computer and out into the physical world. Definitely paint yourself in the best light possible, but don't stretch the truth so far that you're creating expectations that will never be met.

Likewise, be straight up about the kind of person you're looking to meet. The more specific you can be about who you are and what you want, the more likely you are to actually meet that person.

Use a Catch Profile Tag Line

When you're filling out your profile, there are three keys to success: finding a great tag line, writing a blurb about yourself and who you're hoping to meet, and posting a great picture.

Tag lines should be short and sweet, and say something about your personality - favorite quotes are great here, or simple observations about yourself or the world. Whatever you do, avoid cliches.

Write a Genuine Dating Profile Blurb

In your blurb about you, try starting with a list of things you love doing or are passionate about. Write as many as you can, no matter how silly, then go back and circle about three to five of your favorites, and write a short paragraph about yourself focusing on these items. Phrase everything positively, and again, be specific, and be yourself.

Use a Flattering Dating Profile Photo

Make sure your picture is recent, flattering, and captures your personality as best as possible. Let your eyes connect with the viewer, and invite them to look further into your carefully crafted profile.

As a rule, it's a good idea to keep certain personal things to yourself, especially at first, and never give out information like financial details. Go slow, take your time, and let your perfectly tailored profile keep reeling in potentially perfect matches.
