Transcript:How to Crochet a Baby Bib

Hi, I’m Bichlien Nguyen for About.com. Today, I’m going to show you how to crochet a baby bib. This is an easy project for a beginner, and it makes a great baby shower gift.

First, make 32 chain stitches.

[Row 1]: Single crochet in the second chain from the hook, and in each chain across. To make a single crochet, insert the hook in the center of the chain, yarn over, and draw yarn through the chain. Yarn over again and draw through the two loops on the hook. At the end of row one, chain one and turn.

[Row 2]: For row two, work two single crochet in the first stitch, then single crochet in each stitch across. Work two single crochet in the last stitch. Chain one and turn.

[Row 3-5]: Repeat this step for three more rows.

[Row 6-48]: From row 6 to row 48, you’ll make a single crochet in each stitch. Chain one at the end of each row and turn.

Left Strap Crochet Pattern

[Left Strap, Row 1]: Now, it’s time to start on the left strap. In row 1 of the left strap, single crochet in the first 13 stitches. Turn.

[Left Strap, Row 2]: Single crochet 2 stitches together, and single crochet in each stitch to the end. Chain 1 and turn.

[Left Strap, Row 3]: Single crochet in each stitch until you reach last two stitches. Single crochet the two end stitches together. Turn.

[Left Strap, Row 4]: Single crochet 2 stitches together and single crochet in each stitch to the end. Chain 1 and turn.

[Left Strap, Row 5]: Single crochet in each stitch until last two stitches. Single crochet the two stitches together, and turn.

[Left Strap, Row 6-30] From row 6 to 30, single crochet in each stitch across. Chain one and turn.

[Left Strap, Row 31]: When you reach row 31, single crochet in each stitch across and turn.

[Left Strap, Row 32]: At row 32, single crochet two stitches together, and single crochet in each stitch until the last two. End with single crocheting the two stitches together. Turn.

[Left Strap, Row 33]: Repeat the last row. Then, fasten off.

Right Strap Crochet Pattern

Now, it’s time to do the right strap.

[Right Strap, Row 1]: Join your thread with a single crochet in the next stitch, and continue to single crochet until the end. Chain one and turn.

[Right Strap, Row 2]: In the next row, single crochet across until the last two stitches. Single crochet two stitches together. Turn.

[Right Strap, Row 3]: For row three, single crochet two stitches together, then single crotchet the rest of the row. Chain 1 and turn.

[Right Strap, Row 4]: For row 4, Single crochet until the last two stitches. Single crochet the two stitches together and turn.

[Right Strap, Row 5]: For row 5, single crochet two stitches together and single croquet the remaining stitches. Chain 1 and turn.

[Right Strap, Row 6-30]: For rows 6 to 30, single crochet in each stitch. At the end of each row, chain one and turn.

[Right Strap, Row 31]: At row 31, single crochet across all stitches, but do add a chain. Turn.
