Transcript:How to Crochet: Basic V Stitch

Hi my name is Yvonne, and I'm here with About.com to demonstrate how to crochet the basic V-stitch.

How to Crochet a Basic V Stitch

The materials you'll need for the basic crochet V-Stitch are a size i9 crochet hook, and worsted weight yarn. To begin the basic crochet v-stitch start with a slipknot, and to demonstrate I'm going to work a few chains. I'm going to begin in the third chain from the hook, with the double crochet. I'm going to alternate this with v-stitches. Chain one, skip one chain and then the next chain I'll begin my v-stitch, which is to work a double chain one and double in the same space, which I will demonstrate.

Begin a double, yarn over, insert your hook, and again I work into the back bump of my chain, pull up a loop, you have three loops on your hook, yarn over, go through two twice, chain one and that same chain, work another double, yarn over, go in pull up a loop, yarn over and go through two, yarn over and go through two. That makes the shape of a v hence the name the v-stitch.

How to Continue a Basic V Stitch

I'm working a v-stitch I'm going to chain one and work it into the chain space from the v on the previous row. Yarn over, insert into the space, yarn over pull up a loop, yarn over and go through two, two times, chain one and in that very same space, again work another double. That is a v-stitch in a v-stitch. I'll continue in this pattern cross the row. Work a double, chain one skip one, work a double into the top of that next double. Chain one, skip one and work into the top of the double from the previous row. And there is two rows of v-stitches, with alternating doubles. And in this larger swatch is the same stitch pattern. And that is how you crochet the basic v-stitch.
