Transcript:How to Crochet: Basic Popcorn Stitch
Hi, my name is Lucille. I'm here today with About.com to demonstrate the popcorn stitch.
Start a Popcorn Stitch With a Slip Knot
To do the popcorn stitch we need to start off with our basic slip knot. And as always, we're going to chain yarn over, through the loop, yarn over, through. Yarn over through. We're going to do 10. We're going to the third chain from the hook, yarn over and count backwards, one two, three. We're going to place our hook through the chain, yarn over, back to the front.
Do a Double Crochet for a Popcorn Stitch
And we're going to make a double crochet. Yarn over, through, two, yarn over through two, through two. The next stitch is going to be our popcorn stitch, we're going to make five double crochets in one chain. And this is what it's going to look like: yarn over, the next chain, were going to go through two, through two. That's one. And as you can see we have one, two, three, four. Usually your pattern will count for five. And this is the fifth one. But I like a healthy popcorn so I put six -- one more. And if you count them you have one, two, three, four, five, six.
Tips for Working a Popcorn Stitch
You’re going to pull up your loop and let your hook off. You're going to go back to the first double crochet in that set, put your hook through, pick up the drop-loop, and connect it, yarn over and through, You're going to chain one, you’re going to yarn over and complete the row with double crochets. As you can see we have several rows here, with three rows of popcorn. In between, we have a row of double crochets. And this is how you work a popcorn with your double crochet.
