Hi, I'm Keith Dunlop for About.com. Today, I'm going to talk about the history and special powers of comic book hero, Wonder Woman.Who Is Wonder Woman?
Wonder Woman is a fictional superheroine that was created by William Moulton Marston that first appeared in comic books in 1941. Since then, Wonder Woman comics have been published by DC Comics regularly.Information About Wonder Woman
So who is Wonder Woman? Well, Wonder Woman is an Amazon – based upon a race of women in Greek mythology. The Amazons were conceived to have superhuman qualities, and so does Wonder Woman – her physical powers include super strength, stamina, super speed and agility and flight. Like her mythological ancestors, Wonder Woman is also skilled in combat and tactics and she has a natural affinity for the animal world – in some stories she has been shown to be able to communicate with animals.Facts About Wonder Woman's Cosutume
Wonder Woman's costume has some built-in accessories that she uses to fight crime. She wears indestructible bracelets which she often uses to deflect bullets fired at her by bad guys – a tiara that can be used as a boomerang-like weapon – and an invisible jet, controlled by mental command, that she uses to get around. Finally, she carries a Lasso of Truth, which she can use to capture, bind and force people to tell the truth. The Story of Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman's story has undergone many rewritings and revisions in the sixty-plus years of her existence. Originally, she was an Amazon champion who was charged with returning a US intelligence officer who crashed on the Amazon's island – who then stayed to fight crime, evil and Nazis. Then her story was enhanced with an emphasis on her Greek myth roots and the powers that came to her that way. In the 60's she gave up her superpowers briefly to remain in the world of mankind – and after the popularity of the TV show in the 1970's her powers were written back into her story. Even today, Wonder Woman's story continues to evolve, and the stories are better than ever. Thanks for watching! To learn more, visit us on the web at About.com.
