Transcript:Quick Tip: How to Ask for an Extension

Hi, I'm Michelle Wilson for About.com. Today I'm going to talk to you about how to ask for an extension on a college paper.

At some point, everyone needs a little bit longer to complete an assignment. In situations like these, getting an extension is all about communicating sincerely with your professor.

Ask Your Professor in Person

If possible, meet with your professor in person to discuss the extension. I find this to be a better option than a phone call or e-mail, but if your professor is inaccessible, these other choices will suffice.

Clearly State Why You Need an Extension

When speaking to your professor, it's important that you're clear and concise about why you're asking for the extension and when you would like the deadline to be extended to. Showing that you've made progress on the assignment will increase your chances of success.

Asking for an extension is a little intimidating at first, but as long as you follow these tips, you shouldn't have any trouble getting the extra time you need. Thanks for watching. For more information, please visit About.com.
