How to Make Excellent Sangria
Hi, I am Ben Kurtzman for About.com Food and today I am going to show you how to make sangria.

Sangria is a Spanish wine punch that is refreshing on a warm summer day. There are many different recipes for sangria out there, but I find that you can make a delicious and simple sangria simply by using whatever fresh fruit you have around the house.

For this recipe you will need red wine, the juice from one lime, one and a half tablespoons sugar and 2 to 3 cups of chopped fresh fruit. You will also need a pitcher that is large enough to hold everything.

Let us start by chopping up the fruit. I am going to use an apple, an orange, a peach and some grapes, but you should feel free to use whatever is in your kitchen. With sangria, you want to maximize the surface area of the fruit that is soaking in the wine, so thin slices or cubes are best.

Appearance is always important, so let us leave a few slices aside for garnish. Put the fruit in the pitcher, add the sugar and lime juice, and pour in the wine. Now, Spanish wine is traditional for sangria, however if you do not have any, any red wine will do in a pinch.

Mix all of the ingredients together, and then put it in the refrigerator to chill. If you are not going to drink the sangria for a while you can put it in overnight. However, if you want it right away, just put it in the refrigerator until it is cold. Once the drink is chilled, pour it over ice, add the garnish, and enjoy.
