Transcript:Spiced Rum Apple CiderHi, I'm Rachel Edelman for about.com. There's no better autumn beverage than hot apple cider, but if you're looking for a "grown up" version, you might choose to add rum to the cider. Making this is very easy, and its a guaranteed hit at every holiday party.
Spiced Rum Apple Cider IngredientsTo make apple cider with rum, you will need:
- 4 cups apple cider
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1 cup spiced rum
- cinnamon sticks
- whole cloves
Mix the Apple Cider IngredientsFirst pour the apple cider into a large pot. Then add the orange juice and set it to low heat. Next, cut the apple into think slices, and do the same with the orange. Cut so the orange slice shows its sections. Insert a few cloves into each of the orange and apple slices, this will make it easy to remove them from the cider later. Cloves will add a lot of flavor, so adjust for your own taste. Add these slices and the 2 cinnamon sticks to the pot. Let the mixture simmer on low heat for about 20 minutes. If you are making a non-alcoholic version, the cider is complete.
Add Rum to the Apple CiderIf you are adding alcohol, add one cup of rum. Stir and simmer until it heats through. This will serve about 7 cups, so if you have a bigger party, double or triple this recipe. Ladle out the apples, oranges, cloves, and cinnamon sticks. Cut the orange slices in half for a garnish. Serve immediately to your guests, and top it off with an orange slice to your holiday glass. Enjoy.
