Transcript:How to Make a Pink Mai Tai
Hi, My name is Justin Noel, proprietor here at 1534 Bar located here in Nolita, New York. Today I'm here for About.com to do a little bit of a twist on the classic Mai Tai cocktail. We're actually going to be making a pink Mai Tai variation today.
How to Make a Pink Mai Tai Variation
We take a mixing glass, use a blend of Martinique and Jamaican rum and Denizen, one ounce. We'll use one ounce of Jamaican Rum, Appleton Reserve. Jamaican Rum has a nice funk to it, a lot of body, so it'll stand up well in a drink like this. I'll add fresh lime juice, half an ounce; add half an ounce of orange Curacao – grand Marnier.
We'll add about a quarter ounce of orgeat, this is house-made orgeat, so it's a little thick. Orgeat is an almond syrup, we make an almond milk and we add sugar to it, and to give it that nice pink we add a half ounce of our house-made grenadine as well. We close it up and give it a little bit of a whisk.
How to Serve a Pink Mai Tai
Now with Mai Tai and other classical Tiki cocktails you should always used crushed ice or cracked ice. To continue with this pink thing, we'll put a little bit of this house-made grenadine on top, garnish it with some fresh mint and our cherry, and there you have it, our variation of the Mai Tai, the pink Mai Tai.
