Hi, I'm Mandy Day for About.com, and today we're talking about ways to serve fried rice. These tips come to us from About.com's Japanese food site.

Fried Rice Can Be Served at Different Stages of the Meal

Fried rice is a simple and healthy dish that can be served in a variety of ways. A simple bowl of fried rice served alone can be a great appetizer. At traditional Chinese banquets, fried rice is also often served after a meal and before the desert course. Fried rice usually has a rich brown appearance, and a very specific flavor to match. To spice it up, consider adding just a drizzle of soy sauce. This can bring out the flavor of the rice as well as enhance the color. Often you'll want to serve soy sauce alongside the rice as well. Aside from being just an appetizer or pallet cleanser, fried rice is also great as a side dish for a main course.

Vegetables and Meat are Incorporated into Many Fried Rice Recipes

In this case, many people also prefer to stir fry their rice with vegetables like carrots, peppers, and peas, as well as an egg, either mixed in or used as garnish. This can liven up the dish with a lot of color and texture, as well as bring out the flavor of both the vegetables and rice.Serving fried rice mixed with vegetables alongside a main dish creates a beautiful and exciting presentation. On the other hand, many people enjoy fried rice as a main dish itself, either with lots of veggies or with cut meat like chicken or pork mixed in.
