Transcript:How to Make Vegetable Lo Mein

Hi, I'm Jen D'Amore for About.com, and this video is all about how to make vegetarian lo mein, using a recipe from About.com's Vegetarian site.

Ingredients for the Vegetable Lo Mein

First you'll need 2 tablespoons each of teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, wine vinegar, and ground ginger. Whisk those together and set it aside.

Next you'll need:
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 1 carrot
  • 2/3 cup snow peas
  • 1/2 onion
  • 4 scallions
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 pound lo mein or Chinese style noodles

Make the Vegetable Lo Mein

Whisk together the teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, vinegar and ginger. Set aside. Cook the lo mein until the noodles are soft, about 6 to 8 minutes, and drain them well.

Saute the vegetables in 2 tbsp of the olive oil for 3 to 5 minutes, or just until tender. Add remaining oil and the teriyaki and soy sauce mixture to the skillet.

Mix well and add the lo mein noodles. Allow everything to cook together for another 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently and adding moisture if needed.
