Transcript:How to Make Chicken Lo Mein

Hi, I'm Stephanie Gallagher for, and today, we're making a chicken lo mein recipe from our Chinese food site.

Ingredients for Chicken Lo Mein

For this recipe, you will need:
  • 3/4 lb. boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into thin strips
  • 1 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1-1/2 tsp. cornstarch
  • 8 oz. fresh egg noodles or Italian spaghetti
  • 1 tsp. sesame oil

Instructions for Making Chicken Lo Mein

Place the chicken strips, soy sauce and cornstarch in a medium bowl, and stir to coat the chicken well. Let the chicken marinate for 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, bring a pot of water to boil, and add the noodles. Cook, according to the package directions, then drain, and toss with the sesame oil.

Ingredients for Chicken Lo Mein Sauce

Now to make the sauce, you will need:
  • 2 Tbsp. oyster sauce
  • 2 tsp. dark soy sauce
  • 4 Tbsp. beef broth
  • 1 tsp. granulated sugar

Instructions for Making Chicken Lo Mein Sauce

Add all of the sauce ingredients to a bowl, and whisk until smooth. Now set aside.

Additional Ingredients for Chicken Lo Mein

For the rest of the recipe, you will need:
  • 4 Tbsp. oil for stir-frying
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 large carrot, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup chopped cabbage, such as Napa
Heat 2 Tbsp. of the oil in a wok. Swirl to coat the bottom. Add the chicken, and stir fry for several minutes until cooked through. Remove to a plate. Add the remaining 2 Tbsp. of the oil, and add the garlic, and stir fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the carrots, and stir fry for a minute or two. Add the cabbage, and cook for 1 more minute. Now add the noodles, stir fry them with the vegetables, and add the sauce, and stir fry to coat everything well. Return the chicken to the wok, stirring to mix all the flavors. Serve the chicken lo mein immediately.
