Transcript:How to Do a Dress Up Relay Race

Hi. I'm Krystyna Rittichier with About.com, and today I'll show you how to do a dress up relay race. A dress up relay race can be fun for any age group, and can be organized using materials you already have at home.

Materials You'll Need for a Dress Up Relay Race

For a dress up relay race you will need:

  • A large sized sweater or jacket
  • A hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Large shoes
  • A chair
  • A toy musical instrument
  • A stop watch
  • Streamers (optional)

How to Set Up a Dress Up Relay Race

To set up the course for the relay race, set one article of clothing in a different location, and mark the section with a streamer or a homemade flag marker. Use a permanent marker to write the name of the article of clothing on the streamer marker. You will also need to set up a chair with a toy musical instrument on it, and designate a start line.

Rules for a Dress Up Relay Race

Divide the players into two teams, and flip a coin to determine which team will go first. To run the course, the first team sends one player through the race. The timer starts when the first player leaves the start line, and the timer starts when the last player returns to the start line.Send the first player through the course, putting on each article of clothing. When all the clothes are on, the player must go to the chair with the instrument on it, sit down and play five notes on the instrument. Then the player returns each article of clothing to its marker and runs back to his team. He can then tag the next team member to run the course.

When the first team is finished, announce the time it took them to run the course, and send the next team through the course. The winning team will have the lowest time. There are many different options for prizes. You can use childrens' films, stuffed animals, party grab bags or king sized candy bars.
