Transcript:How to Make Glowing Jello

Well, hello. My name is Ben Roy, from gosciencezone.com for About.com. You like jell-o? Well, everybody likes jell-o. Well, today we're going to show you how to make glowing jell-o.

Materials to Make Glowing Jello:

To make this, you will need:

  • One package of Jell-o or gelatin
  • One cup of water
  • One cup of tonic water
  • a Black Light

How to Make Glowing Jello

Boil one cup of water. Pour your jell-o or gelatin into a bowl. Pour the cup of boiling water into the bowl and stir until the powder has dissolved. Add in another cup of tonic water, and stir. Refrigerate the jell-o for four hours, or until it has set. Next, place it under your black light. The jell-o will glow bright blue.

Tonic water contains a chemical called quinine, and blue is the fluorescence of quinine. So no matter what color, and, or flavor you use, it will always be the same blue color.
