Hi! I’m Mark Zamora for About.com and I’m going to show you a fun little chemisty project: How to make fake snot!
Fake Snot Supplies
First off, gather your supplies. What you’ll need is:
- Borax Powder
- Elmer's Glue
- Food Coloring
- Measuring Cups
- Zip Bags or Bowls
Mixing the Fake Snot Goop
Now we’re ready to make our snot! It’s really easy and a lot of fun for kids. Step 1 is to Stir 1/8 cup borax into 500 ml warm water. Allow this solution to cool to room temperature. In a separate container, stir 2 spoonfuls of glue into 3 spoonfuls of water. White glue will give you opaque snot and glue gel will produce you translucent slimy snot. Stir a couple of drops of food coloring into the glue mixture. Then, Add a spoonful of the borax solution to the glue mixture. Stir, if in a bowl, or squish, if in a baggie.
And that’s it! Have fun with your snot and if you’re making this with young children, make sure they don’t ingest it. Borax probably isn’t good to eat.. For more fun chemistry videos, be sure to visit chemistry.about.com
