Transcript:5 Cheers About Defense

Hi, I'm Greg Gilbert, head coach at Seton Hall University. We're here at Central Jersey All Stars in Kenilworth, NJ. Today we're teaching you five cheers about competing.Just a couple tips before that about cheering in general.

Foundations of Cheers for Cheerleading

Tip number one, make sure you have good motion placement. You don't want to go out there looking a mess.

Tip number two, you want to make sure your voice is loud and that you bring it up and down. Have a little bit of inflection. If your monotone the crowds not going to want to follow you.

Number three is the pace. It is very, very important that it's not too fast because your going to be muffled especially with sounds bouncing off the walls.

And last but not least, is energy. No matter what your doing on the floor as a cheerleader you need to be energetic.

Cheers for the Defense

We use this in a close game when we need a turnover or defensive stand. First one is Take it Away Pirates.

Take it Away Pirates. Take it Away Pirates. Last time. Take it Away Pirates.

Defensive cheer number two is the most simple cheer that you can do, but it's the one that the fans love to follow. It's just plain old Defense.

Defense Defense Defense Last time Defense.

You can also create a defensive sideline that's more personalized to your school such as this one.

Pirates are Defense. Block the shot, steal the ball, Pirates are Defense. Last time, Block the shot, steal the ball, Pirates are Defense.

Our fourth defensive sideline is a little bit more encouraging and it's also a little more energetic. It really gets the team fired up.

Defense get up D it up. Defense get up D it up. Last time. Defense get up D it up.

Our fifth sideline is a defensive sideline with just a little bit of a different beat.

D D Defense. D D Defense. Last time. D D Defense.
