Hi, I'm Shane Murphy, your technology guru for About.com. Today, we'll look at some of the best phones out there that feature USB charging. Most of today's modern phones feature a USB port for charging and transferring data. The convenience of being able to charge your phone while it's connected to your computer can be a godsend in airports and similar situations. If you're in a rush though, it's always faster to charge off of a wall socket than your computer.
USB Charging Phones: iPhone
The perennial iPhone has featured USB charging for a few generations now, with the iPhone 4 featuring its charger on the model's upper right side. It takes almost three hours to charge completely when connected to a computer, during which time you could be synching your iTunes library.
USB Charging Phones: HTC Evo 4G
The HTC Evo 4G is a powerhouse media and web surfing phone with a huge 4.3 inch display and tons of connectivity options that will chew through the battery life very quickly. The USB port is located on the bottom of the device, right next to the HDMI port, so you could watch a movie while waiting the two and a half hours for a full charge.
USB Charging Phones: BlackBerry Bold
The BlackBerry Bold is Research in Motion's top model, all of which support USB charging. Known for its intuitive the messaging interface, BlackBerrys make up for in battery life what they lack in flashy features. While you're waiting the three hours for a full charge, you can manually synch your contacts and calendar events with Outlook or Google Programs.
USB Charging Phones: Nokia E6
If you're looking for slightly less expensive smartphone, you can try the Nokia E6, a model with a full QWERTY keyboard, touchscreen, and very hearty battery rated at 9 hours of talk time. The USB charger on the bottom will refill it fully after a little over three hours of charging, during which you could be using the E6 as a data modem.
USB Charging Phones: Sony Ericsson Aspen
If you looking for a basic phone still you can check out the Sony Ericsson Aspen, which still contains all of the essentials of web browsing, messaging, and media playback. Located on the right side of the phone, you can transfer media from your phone to computer while waiting the two and a half hours for it to charge.
Having a USB charging cell phone will allow you to take advantage of some pretty nifty gadgets, such as Li-Ion batteries can be plugged in to provide extra battery life to your phone when you have no other option.
