Transcript:Top 5 List: Best Phone Batteries

Hi, I'm Shane Murphy, your technology guru for About.com. Today, we'll look at a few of the cell phones on the market with the best battery life.

Phones With Best Batteries: Motorola MOTO W23 Renew

Go figure that the most energy efficient phone on the market is made from recycled plastic bottles and has a zero carbon footprint. Say hello to Motorola's MOTO W23 Renew, a very conventional "candy bar" model phone that can handle all of the basics of calling and texting but not much else. The Renew compensates by offering a 9 hour continuous talk time, more than any other phone on the market, and it's cheap to boot.

Phones With Best Batteries: Sony Ericsson TM506

Your best bet for purchasing a standard phone with a long lasting battery is to stick with one of the not so glamorous flip models. The Sony Ericsson TM506 will give you seven hours of continual talk time before shutting down, and can handle a few functions that many flip phones cannot, such as GPS navigation and Push email. You can find this phone online for a reasonable $50.

Phones With Best Batteries: Samsung Upstage

The Samsung Upstage takes a unique approach by creating a "candy bar" style phone built from the ground up to be a mobile mp3 player, with one side the phone and the other the music player. When sitting in its slightly awkward protective sleeve that includes a supplemental battery, this phone can talk for almost six and a half hours, all at a price tag of around $60 dollars.

Phones With Best Batteries: Samsung Reclaim m560

The Samsung Reclaim m560 is another eco-conscious cell phone made with recycled materials that can talk for a total of 6 hours and be found online for less than $50. As a slide-up phone with a full QWERTY keyboard, this mobile packs in more features than its everlast competitors. Besides having a bigger display, it can surf the internet and sync with your email account.

Phones With Best Batteries: Motorola Droid X2

If you're looking for a long lasting smart phone will a multi-sense touchscreen, HD video recording, flawless 3G internet surfing, and all the other modern amenities, then look no further than the Motorola Droid X2. Using the touchscreen for texting and whatnot will drain the battery life much faster than its less advanced predecessors, but you can still get over 6.5 hours of continuous talk time out of it. Unfortunately, all of these features will cost you: without a plan, the Droid X2 retails for almost $500.

Keep in mind that there are a ton of variables inherent to extending your phone's battery life. Manually turning off the 3G or 4G service and just sticking to your GMA or CDMA network will yield much longer talk times, no matter your phone.
