Hello, I’m Michael Watkins for About.com, and today we’re going to show you how to use T9 messaging.
T9 is a Text Setting Using Nine Keys
T9, or text on nine keys is cell phone technology that attempts to make texting more convenient by predicting the words you’re trying to type. One of the first things you should do when using t9 texting is get familiar with where all the functions are on the nine keys. Here you have the clear button, indicated by the “c” If you want to go backwards or delete something. Next, are the punctuation marks. For example, if you want to put a period, a comma, a question mark or an exclamation mark, these are all in sequence. And here by the number sign is usually where the space bar is.
T9 Predicts What Your Are Texting
T9 derives its predictive text from the language database built into your phone. It can be turned on and off based on your preference in texting. The words generated are based on your input, so for example, if you start typing with the letters y o, it might generate the words you or yours. Using a full qwerty keyboard to scroll through your word choices can make it more efficient to send longer and more elaborate text messages.
