Hi, I’m Pelpina for About.com. And today I’ll show you how to set up a new iPhone. I’ll tell explain connecting it to iTunes, how to change personal settings, and how to install apps.Connect the iPhone to the Latest Version of iTunes
First of all, you need to connect your new iPHone to iTunes to get it up and running. If you don’t have it installed, you can visit Apple.com/iTunes to download iTunes.If you do have iTunes installed, make sure you have the most recent version. Then, connect your phone to your computer with the included USB cord. iTunes will launch automatically.If you're connecting a new iPhone, you'll see a message that says "Let's Get Started." You need to register your phone and create an Apple ID if you don’t already have one. If this is your first iPhone, you’ll have to set up a new iPhone account. If you did own one before, you can start from scratch, or restore from a backup. All of the data from your old iPhone will be transferred to the new one.
Configure Your iPhone Personal Preferences
To change some personal preferences, go to settings. Here, you can change the screen brightness, wallpaper, and the sounds your iPhone makes when you receive a text, phone call, or email. Plus, you can connect email accounts, turn wi-fi and bluetooth on or off, enter a passcode to protect your phone, to just name a few. Also, airplane mode is very handy if you still want to use your iPhone to listen to music or play games while you’re flying.Create a Contact List
And of course - you want to create an address book with all your contacts and their information.Just go to your contacts, and tap the plus button. Here, you can enter a name, phone number, ringtone, email, web address, physical address, and a picture.Install iPhone Apps
To install apps, you need to go to the app store. Here, you can browse thousands of apps - from games, to navigation, etc. Check out which apps are new, which apps are popular, and search by paid or free apps. Just click on install to download it on your iPhone. You will need to sign in, and the app will be downloaded automatically.There you have it.
