Hi, I'm Nick Jaynes for About.com, and these are the cheapest cell phone plans. I'll be using information from the Cell Phone site on About.com. Each wireless carrier has a different set of plans. For the most part, they are all comparable in price, but here are the cheapest plans that AT&T and Verizon, two of the nations largest providers, offer.

Prepaid Plans Are Cheapest

The cheapest plan you can enroll in, regardless of provider, is a prepaid plan. A prepaid plan is allows you to pay for only the minutes you use, and there is no monthly contract, or credit check. You can quit at any time if you want to change provider. AT&T's prepaid plan offers a few options. You can enroll in a monthly unlimited plan for $50, a $25 plan that gives you 250 minutes, a $2 daily plan where you pay only for days you use or a 10 cent per minute plan. Verizon also offers a very similar prepaid plan. However, with Verizon, if you want to pay by the minute, it is 25 cents per minute.

Cheap Contract Phone Plans

If you are looking for the cheapest plan with a contract, both Verizon and AT&T offer very affordable voice plans. They both offer 450 anytime minutes for $39.99, 900 anytime minutes for $59.99 and unlimited anytime minutes for $69.99. Both offer unlimited mobile to mobile calls to other phones on their service. However, AT&T offers rollover minutes, so if you don't use all your minutes, you can use them the next month. These plans do NOT include text messages and data plans. Those will be extra based on the provider and the phone.

Cell Phone Family Plan

If you have a family, enrolling in a family plan might be the best way to go. Under the plan, your entire family will share a certain number of minutes. AT&T's most affordable plan is 550 minutes for $59.99, while Verizon's cheapest is 700 minutes for $69.98. Both services only charge $9.99 for additional lines. Considering AT&T has a cheaper family plan and rollover minutes, they might be the provider for you. Hopefully, this video has been helpful so you can pick the most affordable cellphone plan.
