Transcript: Make a Chocolate Lattice

Hi, I'm Rachel Edelman for About.com Food. Today I'm going to show you how to make a chocolate lattice.

Chocolate Lattice Ingredients

For this recipe you will need:
  • 6 oz chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp shortening or corn syrup

Melt the Chocolate: Option 1 - Double Boil

One way to melt the chocolate is to use a double boiler. First heat an inch of water in a pan. Place the chocolate and the syrup in a metal bowl and place over the boiling water. Stir constantly in it will melt completely within a minute or two minutes.

Melt the Chocolate: Option 2 - Microwave

Another way to melt chocolate is to place the chocolate chips and shortening in a microwave safe dish. Cook for 30 seconds on high and then mix so it all melts.

Prepare a Homemade Pastry Bag

Pour the melted chocolate into a Ziploc bag. With scissors, cut the corner of the bag.

Form the Chocolate Lattices

Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Drizzle the chocolate onto the sheet with zigzags in both directions to form 8 lattices.

Refrigerate the Chocolate Lattices

Place in the refrigerator to chill until they are firm.

Serve the Chocolate Lattices

Peel the lattice off the parchment paper and place on your serving plate. Top with ice cream or your favorite fancy dessert.
