Ingredients for Peppermint PattiesTo make peppermint patties, you will need:
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1.5 tbsp softened butter
- 2 tsp peppermint extract
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp cream
- 8 ounces (about 1-1/3 cup) dark chocolate, chopped
Mix Ingredients for Peppermint PattiesPlace the sugar, butter, cream, and both extracts in the bowl of a standing mixer and turn it on low speed. Once it's all mixed together, raise the speed to medium-high and beat for an additional minute until it's very light and creamy and no powdered sugar remains.
Roll Candy into Small BallsIf your kitchen is very warm or your candy is too soft to easily roll, place it in the refrigerator to set for about 20 minutes.
Otherwise, use a teaspoon or a candy scoop to roll the candy into small balls and place them on a foil-lined baking sheet. This recipe will give you 12 large or 24 small balls.
Once they're all rolled, flatten them with the palm of your hand, wetting your palms if necessary if they start to stick.
Set the Peppermint PattiesPlace the tray in the freezer to set the patties until they're firm enough to dip, for about 30 minutes.
Melt Chocolate for DippingWhile you're waiting for the patties to set, melt the chocolate in the microwave, stirring after every 30 seconds until it's smooth and fluid.
Dip the Peppermint Patties in ChocolateOnce the patties are set, use a fork to dip them into the chocolate one by one. Tap the fork against the bowl to remove excess chocolate, then place the patties back on the foil-lined baking sheet.
Refrigerate the Peppermint PattiesAfter all the patties have been dipped, refrigerate the tray to set the chocolate, for about 20 minutes.
These patties have a wonderfully creamy texture and a cool, refreshing flavor.
