Transcript:How to Make Fondant CandiesHi, I'm DoanPhuong Nguyen with About.com. Today, I'm going to show you how to make delicious fondant candies using a recipe from About.com's Candy site.
What Is Fondant Candy?Fondant is the thick, creamy filling in many popular candies, and it can also used as icing on cakes. There are various ways to make fondant, but I'm using an uncooked fondant recipe for my candies.
Ingredients for Fondant CandyTo make fondant candy, you'll need:
- 1/3 cup of softened butter
- 1/3 cup of light corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 pound of sifted powdered sugar
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions for Making Fondant CandyUsing a mixer, add the butter, corn syrup, vanilla extract, and salt. Blend the mixture on medium speed until it's smooth. Next, add the powdered sugar and mix until it's well blended. For a more delectable treat, add in your favorite ingredients at this time. For my own candies, I'm adding in melted chocolate chips.Your fondant is now ready to be made into candy. For bite-sized candies, pinch off a small portion of the fondant and roll it between your palms for a smooth ball. Serve on mini-cupcake liners.
If you want to make chocolate covered fondant candies, melt semi-sweet chocolate chips in the microwave. Because chocolate can overheat and burn, you want to heat the chocolate on medium power for roughly one minute per ounce of chocolate. Next, dip the fondant balls into the melted chocolate chips. Serve on mini-cupcake liners. Allow it to cool in the refrigerator for fifteen minutes before serving.
