Hi, Cliff Wildman with About.com Food here. Today I'm going to show you how to make a heart healthy chocolate snack called apricot almond bark.

Almond Bark Ingredients

For this recipe we'll need:
  • 12 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate cut into small bits or morsels, like I have here
  • 6 ounces of dried chopped apricots
  • 6 ounces of roughly chopped toasted almonds

Melt the Chocolate

First we'll melt the chocolate by putting it in the microwave and heating it on high for about one minute. Pull it out, stir it up a bit and put it back in the microwave on high for about 20-30 seconds. If about two thirds of the chips are melted, it's done, just keep stirring until the chocolate is all melted together evenly.

Mix in the Almonds

Next, we'll take about two thirds of the almonds and pour that into the chocolate and mix that together very well.

Spread the Almond Bark Mixture

Now we'll pour this mixture into a foil lined baking sheet, and you'll want to spread with a spatula or spoon until it is a thin and even layer. While the chocolate is still setting, pour the apricots evenly over the top of the chocolate and also spread the remaining almonds over the top . Push gently down on the apricots to set them into the chocolate.

Chill the Almond Bark

Next, we'll put this in the fridge for 10 minutes to allow the chocolate to set.

Break the Almond Bark Into Pieces

After the ten minutes is up, you can see the chocolate has set, so we'll just peel this off of the foil and break it into whatever size pieces you like. And that's the recipe. This is a really easy to make dessert. It's really heart healthy.
