Hi, Blaine Pennington here for About.com. The Brooklyn Bridge in Manhattan is historic. A must-see are the views that will take your breath away, a must-do is trying one of the amazing restaurants surrounding it. Today I'm going to show you my favorite restaurants that are just a short walk from the Brooklyn Bridge.
Bridge Café Is a Great Restaurant on the Manhattan Side of the Brooklyn Bridge
A former brothel at the end of a cobblestone road, this hidden gem is about a 20-minute walk from the bridge. The building was erected in 1794, and they have been serving customers since 1847, making this joint the oldest drinking establishments in NYC.
The atmosphere is tranquil and quaint and the American style menu is famous for their Soft shell crab, lobster roll, and rib-eye steak. Their fully stocked bar has pretty much any bourbon or scotch you can think of and they offer a great American wine list. I would definitely recommend the soft-shell crab, and be sure to ask for the specials.
Giardino D'Oro Is an Italian Restaurant on the Manhattan Side of the Brooklyn Bridge
Meaning golden garden in Italian, is located just a 20 minutes walk from the Bridge. This fine dining Italian restaurant is known for their 14 k gold-rimmed china, hand painted murals covering the walls, exceptional service, extensive wine list, and of course for their authentic northern Italian menu.
Every meal starts with a complimentary antipasti, all the pastas are homemade, and if there is an Italian classic you don't see on the menu, they'll be sure to try there best to make it for you. Many locals say that this restaurant is like taking a trip to Italy every time they visit. My recommended dish would be the Costoletta Di Vitello Caprese.
Il Brigante Is a Rustic Restaurant on the Manhattan Side of the Brooklyn Bridge
This rustic trattoria is about a 20 minutes walk from the bridge. It's kid friendly, yet has a cozy charming feel. Located on a side cobblestone street in the South Street Seaport, it's a perfect spot for a laid-back dinner with friends and family.
Although they are known for their delicious pizza, the menu has a variety of salads, pastas, and fish dishes to offer. I would have to recommend the Brigante pizza and the homemade ricotta cheesecake for dessert.
Stella Manhattan Bistro Is a Brasserie on the Manhattan Side of the Brooklyn Bridge
This 1920s French brasserie inspired bistro is a 25-minute walk from the Brooklyn bridge. The décor is casual/chic with Swarovski crystal chandeliers and a mahogany bar. They have a large variety of beers and their American/French inspired menu consists of croquettes, chicken paillard, and croque monsieur. If I had to recommend my favorite dish it would be the farfalle with mushrooms and black truffle butter.
Now those are my top restaurants to check out on the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn bridge. Happy dining everyone and for more restaurant tips visit us on the web at About.com. Thanks for watching.
