Hi! I'm Janelle Flat here at Norris of Houston Salon and Day Spa. And today we're going to be talking about how to do an updo on thin hair.
Use Thickening Hair Products to Style Thin Hair
So our model today does have thinner hair, it's very fine, and we want to use something that's going to thicken it up. Meaning, something like a dry shampoo or any kind of powder that's going to thicken up, like talcum powder that's going to thicken up the texture, the density of the hair, give it just a little bit more texture.
Lift Thin Hair by Teasing to Give It More Volume
So I just want to tease a little bit at the top, give it some height at the top. Also with the client that has thin hair you want to make sure that you don't use too much hair spray, it'll tend to weight down the hair. Pull those pieces together that you just teased, twist hair up and push it up. I wan to use a Bobby pin not a hair pin, if you want something that's going to keep it in place. Braids are big thing right now; I'm going to put some braids in there, just giving it a little bit of texture. Tease it a little bit. On somebody who has finer hair, you don't want to make it flat to her head. So anything that's going to keep it off the head.
The Knotting Hair Style Technique Creates the Illusion of Thicker Hair
Now you can grab the bottom part, we'll start doing twists. Or what I call knotting, so you just want to knot it in. For opening the whole thing you just pin it right into place, and you can actually do two knots on one strand if you wanted to. It creates the illusion of having thicker hair. Now with your pieces just wrap them around pin them in. With these hairs that are down underneath, you just pin it right into place. And that's how you do an updo on thin hair.
