Transcript:Updo Hair Style for a Square Face
Hi I am Kelly Britton a professional stylist here today for About.com and I am going to show you How to wear an up do for a square face.Tools for an Updo Hairstyle:
- 1/2 inch barrel curling iron
- Working hairspray
- Rat tail comb
- Bobbie pins
Lift from the Roots When Curling the Hair
Since Kari has a square jaw line we want to conceal it, take all this hair and pull it up away from the face using these side pieces, to curve around her jawline and cover the harsh angle. First barrel curl the whole head starting with the nape area, take about a 1 inch parting and curl the hair and going under. Continue to barrel curl up the whole head lifting hair it from roots and pulling forward. As you curl the hair, keep the ends out last, you don’t want them to go through the hot iron, this protect the ends integrity, these are the most vulnerable, and you want to protect and keep this hair healthy.Tease the Hair to Add Volume to the Crown
Continue curling till whole head is curled. Once finished, spray your working spray hall over and then you will back comb the crown with the rat tail teasing comb as you tease secure a tight tease by pushing all that hair down. Besides having square jawline, Kari has a fine hair, so back comb all over to get height and take attention away form the square jaw line.Spray with working spray and start pinning. Comb and come over the top, when you have the crown smoothed over, twist the hair and pin. Continue pinning all the left over hair until you can reach and secure the twist. Spray the working hairspray, and now that the bun is secure with a twist, you can start to comb out the hair around the face, pulling it down around the jaw. You want to hold and spray while you pull. Now that we have the hair pulled down around the jawline de-emphasizes her square face and jaw, and the bump in the back, drawing emphasis to the top of her head, And that is how you correctly wear an up do for a square face.
