Hi, this is Aubrey with About.com and today I am going to teach you how to exfoliate your face.

Wash Before Exfoliating Your Face

You need to cleanse your face to remove any dirt from the top. It is best to exfoliate your face when it has been freshly cleaned so you do not rub dirt deep into your pores.

Wet your face with warm water. Use a facial scrub designed for exfoliation. If you have sensitive skin you can use a scrub with smaller beads. You can use your finger tips to exfoliate or you can use a facial sponge, loofah or bath gloves.

Use Massaging, Circular Motions When Exfoliating Your Face

Add scrub and gently massage it in circular motions across your whole face. If you have very sensitive skin you will want to use the hand gloves. They are the softest and will give you a lighter exfoliation. If your face starts to turn red, you are applying too much pressure. Only apply a small amount of pressure. It should soothe not hurt.

You should exfoliate your face at least once a week and only up to three times a week. Regular exfoliation helps stimulate circulation in the face. It also promote cellular renewal for smooth and younger-looking skin.

Rinse With Warm Water When Exfoliating Your Face

Once you have exfoliated your whole face, rinse with warm water. Never use hot water -- it irritates sensitive new skin. Gently pat your face dry with a soft towel. Do not rub. This will also irritate new skin. Exfoliating makes your face susceptible to sunburn so be sure to apply a moisturizer with sunscreen.
