Hi, I'm professional stylist Kelly Britton for, and today I am going to show you how to get the blunt cut hairstyle look that is inspired by Jessica Simpson.

Supplies for Jessica Simpson's Blunt Cut

The tools you need are:
  • Emollient
  • Thermal heat protecting hair spray
  • Paddle brush
  • Blow dryer
  • Scissors
  • Comb

Cut Straight Across for Jessica Simpson's Blunt Cut

First wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner. Now section hair off beginning at the nape -- you want to establish your perimeter by cutting the hair at a 0-degree angle straight across, cutting right at the collar bones.

When you get to the side where there is not already a perimeter established you need to make one.Follow the line you created from your established perimeter in the back, making straight sharp cuts. When you get to the top section, comb down inch by inch and clip up the rest.

Create Body in the Crown for Jessica Simpson's Blunt Cut

This crown is the area were you will get all the layers, bounce and body. Angling up toward the head where your guide ends, make a cut straight across. Repeat with the rest of your hair. Pull hair straight up and where your guide ends, make a straight blunt cut.

Let down each inch-section of hair until you reach the front bang/fringe area. When you finish cutting your shape into your hair, the crown is the only area you want to point cut. The difference is the blunt cut is a straight across cut with a blunt edge. The crown area however needs a point cut so you can blend.

When you get to bang area, you want to clip all the hair out of the face and just leave down the part you want for your bangs. Pull them to the opposite side. Overextending the hair will cause each hair to push one another each other, creating that sideswept bang.

Tips for Styling Jessica Simpson's Blunt Cut

You want to use an emollient on your hair to protect for hot tools and add sheen and glow, and also use a thermal protecting spray. Style with a high heat setting blow dryer, and use a paddle brush, pulling the hair towards the face.

When finished drying, you want to flat iron inch by inch sections starting in the nape holding the flat iron straight -- do not curl in, flipping in or out. Following after the flat iron with a comb will help give you that straight perfect blunt look. Let your next section of hair down and continue to flat iron till you get to your top or the part area.

Once you get to the top of the head at the parting where you made the bangs, now flat iron curling over, so the bangs will fall softly across your brow.

That is how you get a blunt cut look inspired by Jessica Simpson. Thank you for watching and for more information, visit Style.
