Hi! My name is Tye Coe for About.com I am a celebrity hair, makeup and fashion stylist and today we are at the fabulous BeSu Salon and Day Spa here in New York City and I am going to talk about hairstyles to avoid if you have short hair and a square face.

Avoid Side Parts on a Square Face

If you have a square face and you have shorter hair there are a few things that you definitely want to avoid. You want to stay away from anything that has a side part because it draws attention to the square area and it shows off the recession more. It is just not very attractive. Another hairstyle that you definitely would want to avoid if you have a square face is anything that is really exposing your face so any hair that is going all the way straight back or all of your face being exposed. It's just not very flattering for a square face, it just makes it even more square.

Don't Add Hair Volume to the Side of Your Face

You also want to make sure that you avoid any hairstyle that has excessive volume on the sides and on the top. Its going to add to the square as well, so make sure that your sides stay really sleek and to make sure you are softening your square you want to make sure that you are bringing the hair forward. An angle shape is really best.Another hairstyle that you want to avoid if you have a square face is anything that is a straight across cut bang. You definitely want to stay away from that because it is going to add to the square shape of your face as well by having a bang.

And those are hairstyles that you definitely want to avoid if you have shorter hair and a square face. Thanks for watching! To learn more visit us at About.com.
