Transcript:How to Style Long Hair if You Have an Oval Face

Hi! My name is Tye Coe for About.com. I am a celebrity hair, make-up and fashion stylist. Today, we are at the fabulous BeSu Salon and Day Spa here in New York City, and I am going to show you how to style long hair to complement an oval face.

First Idea for Long Hair and Oval Face

So one great hairstyle for an oval face is a side chignon with a soft side swept bang. We're going to create a low, side ponytail. Once you have your loose ponytail, we are going to add a little hairspray. Take a piece of hair and wrap the rubber band to get rid of that. Take the hair and we are just going to twist it and fold it up. So we are just going to pin that into the base of the ponytail, the hair that we folded. Once you have got it pinned into the base, you want to just finish it off with a little hairspray there. Polish out the sides. Then we are going to style the bang area off to the side. This is a really quick, semi-glamorous way to put your hair up for an oval face – I think it is great.

Barrel Curls Going Away From Oval Face

Another great way to style long hair for an oval face is nice, big, loopy barrel curls going away from the face. It is a great idea to add just a little bit of hairspray before each section so that your curls last and just curl going back away from the face. We are then going to incorporate just a nice, soft, side-swept bang. We are going to break up these waves that we have created. So this is another really great way to style hair to complement an oval face: it is great because the waves are going back away from the face – it is awesome. I love it.

Another Option for Long Hair and Oval Face

Ok, another really great style to complement an oval face is once you have got your waves in place, go into the mid-recession area and just clip back using a couple of bobby pins and just pin at the base of the scalp. This is a really great style for an oval face because it kind of shows the elongation of the face which is great. And just keeping the side-swept bangs, which is really great for an oval face as well. We're going to finish that off with a light bit of hairspray. And this is another really great style to complement an oval face.
