Transcript:How to Naturally Lighten HairHello! I'm Kimberly Steffen, a stylist here at Norris of Houston. And today we're going to talk about ways to naturally lightening the hair at home.
Use Lemon For a Natural Hair Lightening ElixirOne way you can achieve this is by mixing lemon juice conditioner model. You want to make sure that you never use too much lemon juice because it'll be very corrosive; it is citric acid and would kind of eat away the cuticle of the hair shaft. So what you want to do is maybe take about an ounce of lemon juice, two ounces of conditioner and three ounces of water.
Mix the ingredients together until they're completely combined and you can mist it all over the hair if you want all over lightning. You can mist it just on a few pieces around the face, for some face framing. But it tends to work best if you're already anywhere in the range from medium blonde, no darker than dark blonde, then you can achieve a little bit lighter blonde pieces throughout the hair, or like I said just kind of framing the face for very natural look.
When you to apply the mixture of lemon juice conditioner and water to the hair, head on to the sun. And once you've achieved your desired results, be sure to shampoo your hair thoroughly and always deep condition the ends especially. Like I said lemon juice is very corrosive, and will tend to deteriorate the cuticle layer of the hair.
Applying an Olive Oil and Honey Mixture Will Lighten the Hair NaturallyAnother formulation for the natural lightning of the hair at home is a mixture of olive oil, water, and honey. You take 1/2 cup of raw honey, a cup and 1/2 of filtered water; mix the two ingredients together until they're completely combined, then you want to add a tablespoon of olive oil, and extra virgin olive oil tends to work best, has less particles and impurities in it.
This is going to be a little more of a different consistency, so you want to maybe just apply it on sections of the hair. Head on to the sun to achieve your desired lightness, and then once you're finished, you want to make sure that you rinse the hair completely, shampoo it, and always deep condition. Now the honey is very sticky, so you may have to do a couple of shampoos, you may even have to go and use a purifying Shampoo to remove all of the honey from the hair.
And these are just a couple of formulations to have you achieve natural highlights at home.
