Hello, I'm Aubrey for About.com. Today, I'm going to show you a simple way to make fake blood using a recipe from About.com.

Ingredients for the Fake Blood

Before you get started, you'll need a few items:

  • 1 tablespoon of corn starch (you can also use arrowroot powder)
  • 1 cup of white corn syrup
  • 1/3 cup of water
  • a few drops of red food coloring
  • a few drops of blue food coloring (green works too if you don't have blue)

Create the Liquid Base for the Fake Blood

To begin, pour the corn syrup into a medium mixing bowl. You want to make sure you use light -- not dark -- corn syrup for this recipe. Add one tablespoon of corn starch. Arrowroot powder is even better, it makes for a less clumpy mixture. Stir thoroughly. Break up any clumps of corn starch. Now, slowly pour in the water. Mix well. Now add a little more water. Continue to stir. If you find that the mixture is a little runny, you can sprinkle in a little additional corn starch. Stir very well (again breaking up any clumps) until you the mixture is the consistency and texture of blood. You will use this liquid as your base for the fake blood.

Add Color to the Fake Blood

Add several drops of the red food coloring. Stir the mixture until any streaks of food coloring are completely blended and the liquid is a bright red color. Add a drop or two of either blue or green food coloring. Be sure not to add too much, you can always add more but you can remove the blue coloring. Set aside the mixture and allow it to thicken before using it. You can use this as makeup, apply to the skin or clothing. Just know that this will leave a stain.
