You will need:- hair bleach
- color toner
- claw clips
- aluminum foil
- a comb
- shampoo and conditioner
Best to Go to a Salon to Lighten Dark Hair
When you are dying your hair a lighter color, it is best to get it done professionally. The bleach sold in stores only contains 20% peroxide, which will turn your hair orange if not done carefully.First mix shampoo with hair bleach. Apply it to wet hair. Work it until you get a lather. This will remove some of the darker tones. Leave it on for up to 20 minutes. If your hair is really dark, keep it on longer. After massaging it in, wash the shampoo out and condition your hair.
Foil Your Hair to Lighten Dark Hair By Dyeing
After rinsing, comb through your hair and blow dry it. Then, part your hair into small sections. Take a small piece of hair and place aluminum foil under it. Apply the bleach to the piece of hair. Make sure you coat it thick. Fold the aluminum foil up, and over on each side. You are not going to foil all of your hair. For each piece you foil, you are going to leave an equal piece undone. This makes your lighter hair blend in better. Continue doing this to all of your hair. Once you have finished foiling, your hair should look like this. All of your hair should not be foiled. Let the bleach sit for 20 minutes.
Rinse Out Bleach to Finish Lightening Dark Hair
Next, lean your head in a sink and pull a few pieces of aluminum foil out at a time. Wash the hair to remove the bleach. Continue doing this until all of the aluminum foil is out. Wash through your hair with water to remove all the bleach. Then apply a toning shampoo. Lather it well, then wash it out. After, towel dry your hair. Apply a color toner to your hair to tone down the highlights. Wash it out after letting it sit for ten to 20 minutes. Finish off by shampooing and conditioning your hair.
