My name is Claudia Farrat for About.com and today we are going to learn how to keep straight hair wavy through the night.
Prep Hair When Keeping Straight Hair Wavy All Night
Always ask the client if they have a picture or a visual that shows what they are shooting for. A consultation prior to starting is best so you can take into consideration the client's features and face shape, as well as hair texture and density, which decides the size and quantity of waves best suited for the client.
Hair must be at least 1 day past its last shampoo due to that a mild amount of oil and residue on the hair assists in holding styling product used to create styles, texture and a strong hold on waves. Divide hair in the appropriate sections to start waving vertical strands. In this case we will be sectioning all along the outer edge of head and working inside to outside of hair.
Use a Curling Iron to Keep Straight Hair Wavy All Night
I grab small diagonal sections, spray them with product to assist in holding the wave -- that allows waves to move and leaves a clean shiny finish. Each section is then hand-wrapped around the desired width of the curling barrel until reaching the end of the hair strand. Leaving the curling iron duck bill open, count to 8 and then gently release and slip curling iron out of strand, place down your curling iron and use a duck bill clip to pin wave, spray the hair with hairspray, let it cool and set. Repeat the above mentioned all around the head. Tip: Make sure you are winding the area around the face on both sides in the same direction, this is key in creating harmony in the wave pattern.
Finish Styling to Keep Straight Hair Wavy All Night
Once you have finished the entire head, spray the hair again with hairspray, let cool completely after about 20 minutes and stretch ends to soften wave. This provides all-night wear on the style and may even survive until the next morning.
