Transcript:How to Create an Updo From Hairpieces
Hi, I am Kelly Britton, professional stylist and for About.com. Today I am going to show you to create an updo using hair pieces.
Supplies for an Updo From Hairpieces
The tools you will need are:
- 1/2-inch barrel curling iron
- One rat tail comb
- Ponytail holder
- Hair spray
- Bobbie pins
- A hair piece (your same color or a different color for added dimensions)
Clip the Extensions to Make an Updo From Hairpieces
The first thing you want to do is section hair to create a small ponytail coming straight out of the crown of the head and outward, and clip front pieces away. Gather enough hair for a small ponytail.
Make a 2-inch by 2-inch square ponytail and pull the ponytail on the top of the head and secure with the ponytail holder. Pull to make sure it is tight. Next, use your hairpieces or extensions -- a clip in style from any beauty supply shop will work, and they usually come with combs to clip into your hair. Clip on and secure with bobbie pins. Make sure it will not move.
Spiral Curl the Hair for an Updo From Hairpieces
Next, pull the hair that you did not use in the ponytail toward the front of the head and clip, and do the same thing on the other side. Next you want to spiral curl the clip in hair extension. Now my hair does not match the color of my mannequin head, but that is ok, it will add real dimension for the up do in the end.
After you have curled the extension, you will want to gather the hairpiece and pull up and form into a bun formation and bobbie pin. You will hide your pins so make sure it is all secure and tight. Now spiral curl all the rest of the hair besides the extension, then comb back all the hair over the extension.
Finish the Updo From Hairpieces
Take small sections from the ponytail you left hanging pull them up and enter twine the hairpiece and the real hair and blend. Secure with more pins, and spray. Comb out the bangs and spray again while pulling back. The look is loose, an imperial look, yet edgy, due to the two-tone hair color. And this how to create an up-do with a hairpiece.
