Supplies Needed to Create an Elegant Loose Bun Updo

For this hairstyle, you'll need the following items:

• an assortment of bobby pins and hair pins
• small elastic bands
• hot rollers or a curling iron
• a brush
• a rattail comb
• a back comb
• a smoothing brush
• clips for sectioning the hair
• a workable hairspray
• a super-hold hairspray

Curl Hair for an Elegant Loose Bun Updo

When styling your hair for prom, you want to make sure to start with clean, dry hair, whether you wash it at home or you have your stylist do it for you in the salon. For this style, you'll need to add some curl to the hair. One way to do this would be to set the hair in hot rollers, allowing 20 minutes or so for the rollers to cool and the curls to set.

You can also use a large-barrel curling iron if you'd prefer. After your curls are set, try not to disturb them too much.

Pin Hair for an Elegant Loose Bun Updo

Gently, take the center section of hair, leaving a small fringe around the hairline and create a little bun, keeping it really loose. Then, gather up the fringe hair on one side and wrap it around the initial bun, pinning it as you go. Move to the other side and repeat the previous step. You can finish this look with hairspray.
