Supplies Needed for the Loose Curly Bun Updo

For this hairstyle, you'll need the following items:

• an assortment of bobby pins and hair pins
• small elastic bands
• hot rollers or a curling iron
• a brush
• a rattail comb
• a back comb
• a smoothing brush
• clips for sectioning the hair
• a workable hairspray
• a super-hold hairspray

Create Curly Hair for a Loose Curly Bun Updo

When styling your hair for prom, you want to make sure to start with clean, dry hair, whether you wash it at home or you have your stylist do it for you in the salon. This particular hairstyle is ideal for those with naturally curly hair; however, if you have straight hair like our model does, you'll need to spend some time curling small pieces of hair with a small-barrel curling iron.

Finish the Loose Curly Bun Updo

Now that we've finished curling the hair, we'll create a loose bun with the back third of the hair, gently twisting the hair into a bun at the center of the head and pinning it in place. Move to the side, and wrap the hair around the bun you've just created, pinning it as you go. Repeat this on the other side, leaving a few loose tendrils to embellish the look. Be sure to finish the look with hair spray.
