Transcript:How to Choose the Right Lip ColorHi, my name is Tricia Mann with About.com and this how to select the right lip color. I will demonstrate the essential application techniques on my model, Jenna, so you can see the finished results. Let’s get started.
Know Your Natural Coloring Before Picking a Lip ColorThe key in select right lip color starts with knowing your own natural coloring. You are a cool, if you look better in silver jewelry. You are a warm, if you tend to look good in gold jewelry. All colors on the color wheel come in cool or warm shades. Now you just have to look at the shade and decide whether it is warm or cool. When you look a warm color they tend to have yellow under tones. Your cool shades tend to have more blue undertones. So the key is knowing which colors are warm and cool and selecting them based on your coloring.
Use the Right Lip Color to Enhance Your FeaturesAlso you can blend colors together using a lip liner or lip gloss to create your own shade that matches your own natural skin tone. A nude color is the best way to make your lips look plumper. The key is in lining your lips with lip liner so that the lip line does not fade away. You also want to select the right shade of nude that’s not going to wash your skin out.
Be Aware of Undertones in Lip ColorsIf you want to try a bold color but are afraid of a dramatic lipstick, try sheer the version or the version in a lip-gloss. If you are self conscious about yellow or stained teeth stay away from yellows and reds. Oranges have a yellow base in them, as do warm reds. That actually brings out the yellow in your teeth.
If you want to look more awake, opt for a red color. This will draw attention to the lips versus the eyes, which may look a little tired if you are tired. Steer clear of cool shades or blue under-toned reds, as they will draw out the blue tones in under eye circles making them stand out more. And that’s how to choose the right lip color.
