Transcript:How to Choose a Cleanser

Hello, I’m Kacie Marie, this is About.com and today I’m going to give you some tips on finding the right cleanser for your skin.

Use Skin Cleansers Right for Your Skin Type

If you have dry skin, you want to use a cream based cleanser, that has a little bit of moisturizer in it. It will help you throughout the day, and even more at night. If you have normal or oily skin, it’s great to use a foaming cleanser, which will gently scrub away the oil and keep your face fresh all day. If you have dry skin, don’t use foaming cleansers.

Use Cleansers Strong Enough to Remove Makeup

If you wear makeup, you need to find a cleanser that's oil based. It’s got to be strong enough to take off tinted foundation, blush, etc. Now if you wear light or no makeup, you need to find a cleanser that’s much lighter. Often times it’s clear, this way it’ll give you a nice fresh wash.

For Sensitive Skin Types, Check Cleanser for Ingredients

If you have sensitive skin you want to find a cleanser that’s much easier on the skin, if it’s fragrance free, and has ten or less ingredients, than it might be for you. If your skin is still sensitive, then organic soaps and cleansers might be for the answer you. In the nighttime, it’s good to use a thicker and heavier cleanser. In the morning you want to keep it nice and fresh and light.

And remember: body wash is not face wash. Its’ generally stronger and can irritate and dry out your skin. When shopping for cleansers, there’s all different kinds you can get, but ultimately you have to listen to how your skin feels. If it’s leaving your skin red, irritated and itchy, it’s not for you.

I hope you find the right cleanser for you skin. For more information go to About.com. Until next time.
