Hi! My name is Ren Allen with Faces by Ren Professional Makeup Artistry.
Why Use a Milk of Magnesia Mask?
Today, I am going to show you how to properly apply a milk of magnesia mask to mattify and absorb oil from skin. So let's get started. Now this is milk of magnesia, easily purchase at your local grocery store or pharmacy. The active ingredient in milk of magnesia is magnesium hydroxide which is extracted from clay. It actually, has minerals and it has a mild anti bacterial effect, but the main reason we use this on a skin is to absorb oil.
Tips for How to Correctly Apply a Milk of Magnesia Mask
So this how you apply the milk of magnesia mask; we have washed and dried our skin, pat it, dry with the towel very gently and we the have milk of magnesia here and a cotton ball. And we are just doing to pat this on to the face. It's very thin and milky so you won't really see a whole lot of texture. Avoid the eye area as with most masks and avoid the lips. Now this mask can be used just where you tend to get shine like through the T-zone area. So if you tend to get oil just in the T-zone right through here which is the most common place to get some shine, you can just apply the mask there, if you're extremely oily go ahead and pat this all over the skin.
After Applying a Milk of Magnesia Mask
Let it sit on the skin for 10-15 minutes and then, you can even reapply a very, very thin layer just through where ever you need some extra shine control as a mattifier under your make-up. So we are going to let that set for about 10 minutes now.So now that the milk of magnesia has dried you can see a thin milky texture over the skin and this is why you want to be really careful and only use a very small amount if you do use it under make-up because it can end-up looking tackier. So just take a warm wet wash cloth and gently remove or splash the face with warm water and then proceed with your usual skin care; your moisturizer and so on. So because milk of magnesia is over the counter pharmacy product, you don't have to worry about storage. It stores with your other drugs and medicines in the cupboard and it is not needed to be refrigerated. So just watch the expiration date, and that's how you apply and remove a milk of magnesia mask.
